The Council

Program Description

The Council targets youth of all races and ethnicities displaying aggressive/violent behavior, marginalized youth having negative contact with the system, and those with negative peer relationships. This program targets pre-teens and adolescent boys and young men and LGBTQ youth who identify with male adolescent development 9 to 18 years, regardless of risk level. 

Standing Together- A Journey into Respect

Ages: 10-14

Number of Sessions: 10

Description:

This portion of the program addresses breaking down social-cultural barriers, motives and actions around put-downs, knowing their personal rights, defining assumptions about male power, respecting others’ physical boundaries, understanding and using the energy of strong emotions, and standing up for each other in community.

Living A Legacy- A Rite of Passage

Ages: 10-14

Number of Sessions: 10

Description:

In this portion of the program, young men gain skills and knowledge to navigate growing up male in today’s society. It introduces topics and activities that address challenging topics like relationships, conflict resolution, education, leadership, community service, diversity, mass media messages, personal values, integrity, and future goals.

Journey of the Great Warrior

Ages: 13-18

Number of Sessions: 18

Description:

This portion of the program identifies assets and barriers of marginalized youth. Using challenges, personal  narratives, and the restorative environment. This allows participants to explore both effective and limiting survival strategies.

Men of Honor-Becoming Respectful, Nonviolent Leaders

Ages: 13+

Number of Sessions: 10

Description:

This portion of the program is trauma responsive and covers rigid and harmful gender norms, developing definitions of manhood guided by respect and non-violent behaviors. Activities are designed for youth to explore harmful beliefs and work together towards becoming respected leaders and examples in their community.
