Rural Addressing

Responsibilities

The Rural Addressing Office is responsible for assigning E-911 physical addresses to every residential and commercial structure in the unincorporated areas of Valencia County.

The Rural Addresser uses the latest technology Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and Global Positioning System (GPS) to map roads and structures that are then plotted by this office in our GIS system. Other departments such as Bureau of Elections, Planning and Zoning and the Assessors GIS department can use this information to build their own layers of information.

In conjunction with the Village of Los Lunas and the City of Belen GIS offices, a County wide road network has been created for E-911 response.

This office maintains the county road and address databases used by the Valencia Regional Emergency Call Center for 911 Emergency response. The Rural Addressing Office works closely with the telephone companies and the VRECC to insure accuracy of these databases.

Duties

The Rural Addressing Department’s duties include:

  • Ensuring that roads are Database compliant with both the telephone companies and the United States Postal Service.
  • Naming of roads
  • Providing road maps for Public, Postal Service and Schools etc.
